# Mu Yu Ming (木玉明) > Mu Yu Ming (木玉明, also Mu Yuming; b. 23 March 1971, Kunming, Yunnan, China) is a Naxi Chinese contemporary conceptual artist whose practice spans oil painting, ink series, performance, public art, and social sculpture. He trained at the Central Academy of Art & Design, Beijing (1993–1994), earned a BFA from the Norwegian Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Oslo (1996–2000, Department of Experimental Art, on a Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs scholarship), and was an artist-in-residence at the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten, Amsterdam (2005–2006). He has exhibited across China, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Slovenia, Italy, the USA, New Zealand, and Thailand since 1996. Recurring concerns: Buddhist practice and meditation (禅修), Naxi heritage and Dongba script, tea as social sculpture, mountain travel, and the relationship between art and everyday life. He works under several art names including 老木 (Lao Mu) and 丽江农民 (Farmer Mu), and is based between Lijiang, Yunnan and Chiang Mai, Thailand.
